Roderick Hannaman is
an artist, a craftsman, a maker of things. Rod has a special ability
to see things, objects, machines in three dimensions. He is driven
to make art, to draw, to paint, to form wood, to mold clay, to make
what he says "comes into my head". It becomes a compelling need that
must be met. This creative urge may wake him in the middle of the
night and he often just gets up and begins creating. Rod's favorite
creative mediums are clay, wood and acrylic paint. Clay becomes
sculptures as with his art tiles.
Some of the acrylic paintings have a "spiritual" essence.
When
Rod was just a boy living in Santa Barbara, it was in his father's
backyard shop where he began making things. In school he took
art and craft classes. While attending Arizona State University he
studied architecture, oil painting, life drawing, ceramics and
sculpture. During a career as a Juvenile Court Officer and as a busy
father and husband he always drew, painted or made things as time
and circumstances permitted. In the last few years he has been more
focused and prolific regarding his art. He has entered and won
awards in local art competitions. Rod feels he gains much from his
commitment to God, the "creator" of all things.
Rod comes from a family
that is creative. His father began his career as a "Manufacturing
Jeweler", making jewelry and cutting semi precious stones for that
jewelry. He has a brother who has a web design business and also makes hand carved
wooden signs.
Rod is married to Vincy,
his wife of 40 years and has three daughters, (two sons-in-law) and
five grandchildren. He lives and works in Greenwood, Arkansas. He
was born in Auburn, California, grew up in Santa Barbara, California
and Phoenix, Arizona. He has a BS from Arizona State University,
Tempe, Arizona and an MRE (MA) from Talbot Seminary, Biola
University, LaMirada, California. He worked as a juvenile court
officer for 29 years in Sebastian County, Arkansas (Ft. Smith and
Greenwood, Arkansas) Rod retired from this job in July 2002 and now
devotes much more of his time to experimenting, creating and
continually refining and expanding the scope of his artistic
pursuits.
